Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) in conjunction with Climate and Sustainable Development Network of Nigeria (CSDevNet) and the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of Abuja, Nigeria, commemorated the 2019 World Environment Day (Beat Air Pollution) with a March for Climate Justice within the University’s environs.
The peaceful procession of student’s of the University and other stakeholders created awareness on climate change and other environmental challenges in Nigeria.
Furthermore, stakeholders summited their demand for climate actions to the Head of Department, Geography and Environmental Management, Prof Alhassan Mamman who promised to communicate the demands to the School Management.
Some of the demands of the students and stakeholders included:
- Seeking that the School Management push for the mainstreaming of environmental education in higher institutions in Nigeria
- Scale up of environmental research in higher Institutions across Nigeria
- Continuous Advocacy and awareness creation about environmental challenges and solutions in higher institutions across the country.
