Solar for Internally Displaced Persons Camp (Solar for IDP Camp) is an initiative of GIFSEP; (Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem) aimed at powering all IDP Camps in Nigeria with Solar. The insurgency and communal crises have displaced about 2 Million people who are taking shelter in Internally Displaced Persons Camp in different parts of the country and nearly all the camps are without electricity. Our goalis to provide clean energy access to all internally displaced persons across Nigeria by lighting up the IDP camps with Solar. We also train selected IDP’s with skills on installation and maintenance of simple solar systems.
How it Works: GIFSEP selects an IDP camp, forms an implementation committee with all the stakeholders (Camp Management, beneficiaries and a Staff of GIFSEP). The beneficiaries are selected based on criteria which include: The most vulnerable people, women, widows, households with students etc. The beneficiaries are trained on installation and maintenance.
How you can participate:
Organizations and Individuals can donate or buy solar kits for onward distribution to the IDP’S.
Our Solar kit is a 10watts Panel, 10,000Mah Battery, 3 LED Bulbs, Torchlight and USB for charging of phones and a small radio.
Cost: N27, 000 $75 for one Household
