We are pleased to announce the release of the report of the Community Climate Risk Register for Benue State. The report identified dry spells, heatwaves, flooding, and other climate risks affecting communities in the state. Alongside the debilitating impacts of these risks, the report also highlighted various coping and mitigation efforts adopted by the communities.
The recommendations from this report will serve as a veritable tool for communities to adapt to climate change. It will also guide the government in designing and implementing policies and programs that address the specific and relevant needs of communities in Benue State. Additionally, the report offers a model that can be adapted by other states facing similar risks and challenges.
The development of the Climate Risk Register is a component of the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) Project, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands through OXFAM. This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing climate challenges and underscores the importance of community-driven solutions in building resilience against climate risks.
