The Adapt2Live Campaign, implemented by GIFSEP with support from PowerShift Africa, deepened national conversations on climate adaptation and brought practical solutions directly to the communities most affected. This year’s work unfolded as a connected journey of awareness, capacity building, and policy engagement, reflecting the campaign’s core mission: helping Nigerians not just survive climate impacts, but adapt and thrive.

The campaign began with a strategic media and digital outreach effort to spotlight the urgent need for climate adaptation financing in Nigeria. Through social media storytelling, radio segments, and targeted media engagements, the public and stakeholders were introduced to the realities of adaptation gaps, the opportunities for reform, and the voices of community members living on the frontlines of climate change. These initial engagements created the foundation for a national conversation led not only by experts, but by citizens demanding action.
Building on this momentum, GIFSEP convened civil society organisations and journalists for a knowledge-shaping workshop on climate adaptation finance. The session strengthened the capacity of the media and CSOs to understand financial flows, track policy progress, and amplify the needs of vulnerable communities within national adaptation frameworks. Participants left better equipped to engage government institutions, monitor commitments, and ensure adaptation policies reflect local priorities. The workshop reinforced that adaptation is not merely a technical subject…it is a matter of justice, accountability, and shared responsibility.

From national discourse, the campaign moved deeper into community engagement. In the Shabu community, Lafia, GIFSEP introduced hands-on, context-driven training on climate-smart agriculture, bringing adaptation from a policy conversation to a practical, lived experience. Women, youth, and persons with disabilities explored sustainable farming techniques rooted in soil health, organic inputs, and small-space cultivation. Guided by the project team, participants reimagined farming as an adaptive practice that aligns with nature rather than struggles against it.

The campaign culminated in a policy engagement that bridged community voices with national decision-making. GIFSEP paid a courtesy visit to key policymakers and Nigeria’s climate negotiators to present the #Adapt2Live Demands; a set of community-informed recommendations rooted in the lessons gathered throughout the project. This engagement ensured that local realities, especially those from rural farming communities, were represented in Nigeria’s preparations for COP30.
