GIFSEP held its Annual Staff Retreat bringing together staff from across the organization for two days of learning, reflecting, planning, and team bonding. The goal of the retreat was simple: to strengthen our team, improve how we work together, and align everyone with GIFSEP’s Strategic Plan for 2026–2030.
The retreat opened with an important training on safeguarding, facilitated by CBM Global. Staff were reminded that safeguarding is a shared responsibility and a key part of ethical development work. Discussions focused on accountability, transparency, and the importance of speaking up when concerns arise.

The organization’s new Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 was presented which outlined the priorities for the coming years and highlighted the role of data, learning, and strong systems in achieving long-term impact. Following that, was another key session to review organizational policies, including the Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, Finance, Procurement, Safeguarding, and Whistleblowing policies. This helped refresh staff understanding of the standards that guide GIFSEP’s daily work.
One of the most engaging parts of the retreat was a staff reflection session where team members openly discussed challenges facing the organization and suggested solutions. Some of the key issues raised included funding limitations, communication gaps, office space challenges, and operational inefficiencies. The session also saw Staff propose practical steps to take to tackle these issues. These conversations showed the value of teamwork and collective problem-solving.

Day Two focused on building stronger relationships and practical skills. Interactive activities created a fun and relaxed environment that encouraged collaboration. A team-building session explored the importance of trust, communication, and shared leadership. Staff also took part in exercises that demonstrated how teamwork leads to better results. Shortly after was a training on documentary photography for advocacy where staff learned how to use images to tell powerful stories and better document GIFSEP’s work. The retreat also included a health insurance onboarding session with Bastion HMO.

The 2026 GIFSEP Annual Staff Retreat strengthened staff capacity, improved collaboration, and created a shared sense of direction for the future. Staff described the retreat as refreshing, insightful, and motivating. Many appreciated the opportunity to learn, connect with colleagues, and contribute ideas for improving the organization. As GIFSEP continues its work in food security, environmental sustainability, and community development, one thing is clear: strong teams build stronger impact.
